We are very proud of our Students of the Week.

STAR Testing began today for grades K-8. Everything will be done online. The teachers have been preparing the students for the testing. Please be sure your child has a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast each day.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 5th, will be K-8th Back-to-School Night. We will begin the evening by meeting in the auditorium at 6:30 p.m. We will have an introduction of the staff. Parents will then proceed to the classrooms. By the end of your grade level meeting, you should have a thorough understanding of what awaits your student for the entire school year. The evening will end at 8:00 p.m. The 6th grade parents will have an opportunity to meet with Mr. Daryl Baptista and Mrs. Alicia Cabe-Reyes at 8:00 p.m in the 7th grade classroom.

Chocolate Chip Cookie sale will be this Friday, September 7th. Order forms have been sent out last week.

Preschool-8th grade families – please join us for our first Family Mass this Sunday, September 9th, at 9:30 a.m. in the church. Grade 1 and Student Council will host the Mass. We will be celebrating our 70th anniversary, providing quality education in San Francisco.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word will start also this Sunday, September 9th, during mass at 9:30 am. This ministry offers young children an opportunity to experience God’s Word in an age-appropriate way. Children ages 3-6 are invited up to be blessed and dismissed for their own Liturgy of the Word. They discuss the Gospel in a way that is meaningful to them. Children will rejoin their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Volunteers assist the children with activities and responses that allow them to participate in the liturgy. This is a great way for parents with young children to enjoy Sunday mass without distraction. If you would like to volunteer for this special ministry, feel free to contact Fr. John at FrJohnpastor@aol.com

Our PTG Meeting will be next Wednesday, September 12th, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. The monthly PTG meetings are a great way to find out what is happening at STA and meet new friends. This meeting is open to parents of students from preschool-8th grade. Childcare will be provided and there is parking in the schoolyard.

Don’t forget to buy your admission bracelets for 2018 Field Day next Saturday, September 15th, in Golden Gate Park’s Lindley Meadow! Our annual school picnic is always so much fun for our children and families. The preschool will be hosting a coffee and donut tent starting at 9:00 a.m., and the festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. There will be races for every grade, including    preschool! You can purchase your Field Day admission bracelets at http://sfsta.nationbuilder.com/field_day_20180915 or by sending cash or check (addressed to STA) to the front office. If you would like to earn service hours and volunteer for this event, you can sign up at http://bit.ly/2018stafieldday

Some dates for the various high school visits with our 8th graders have been set up. Representatives from various high schools will explain their school curriculum, activities, admission requirements, etc. They want each student to know everything there is to know about their school, and invite questions. You are very welcome to attend.

On Tuesday, September 25th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., STA is pleased to host a special program with storyteller Marty Brounstein, author of Two Among the Righteous Few: A Story of Courage in the Holocaust. He brings a true interfaith story of courage, compassion, and rescue about a Catholic couple in the Netherlands named Frans and Mien Wijnakker who, despite much risk and danger, saved the lives of over two dozen Jews during World War II.  Marty also has a meaningful personal connection to this story and its heroes, which he reveals in his engaging storytelling presentation. Now into its 7th year, Marty has been on an unexpected journey of sharing this special story in a variety of venues in his home base of the San Francisco Bay Area plus in over a dozen other cities around the country. Book signing follows the presentation. The event is open to the community. Come hear this inspirational story!

Please know that we are accepting donations in honor of Kevin Murphy. The donations will be used to install new benches in the schoolyard and a plaque in his honor will be placed there.

See you at Back-to-School Night! Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Judith A. Borelli
